An unusual WW1 (Edwardian) era watch fob, modeled as a highly realistic rope-and-tension snare drum. This 14k gold drum has a lightly-domed glass frontthatopens to reveal a compartment, made to hold a miniature, folded, 48-starAmerican flag. The reverse drum face is a set with an iridescent mother of pearldisc. The body ofthe drum is continuously engraved with plumes and flowers, and its "tension ropes" are fine, twisted pairs of gold wire. Fobs like this one arequite rare and when found they are rarely of this fine quality—it would have been made toserveas an outward show of patriotism during the 1st World War. This fob bears a small, engraved, design number 6758S, andis marked 14k for purity.
